This is pretty cool. Found this elsewhere years ago... back then I didn't think they were genuinely different takes. I never compared them. I was also a little biased because I heard so much live soundboard at that time that nothing sounded different to me. Keep in mind, I was like 16. These are definitely different takes than whats on the album. I am pretty certain they are all the same drums though, and I also read way back that "Crawl Away", the actual version on the undertow album, was recorded during the Opiate sessions...and I do believe the tones and tempo etc., on that track help to verify that information...although it was mixed and mastered to fit better on Undertow in the end. So I do believe most of the tracks like drums, guitar, bass, and most vocals are actually the same as on the album... but there are some differences, especially at the very end on vocals...and obviously the mix. But otherwise...these are a little blown out, but still are studio recordings so they sound pretty great anyway. Relatively speaking. I analyzed and edited them in Logic. They are almost completely Mono. And obviously lost a bit of quality through the various methods of transfer they underwent. I made a remaster (i am technically amateur, but I do near pro-level work and have been professionally hired a few times.) I was able to spruce them up well, and if anyone wants them, shoot me a message. Maybe I will offer them here if possible...though I doubt they allow non-official remasters on this site. I will be making a Youtube Channel soon dedicated to the remasters I do...which are mostly unofficial Tool.

The download page says these are Undertow outtakes. A nice little gem from the early days. Great sound quality, if a wee bit heavy on the bottom end, but a very meaty recording. Early Tool does not disappoint!
